Sunnylands Center and Gardens in Palm Springs

Oh my horticultural goodness, Sunnylands Center & Gardens are a work of modern art. Lucy and I had spent the day before in Joshua Tree National Park and were already on sensory overload when we arrived here. This garden knocked our socks off!  Entering in the long, curving driveway the garden impacts you right away but then you see the Sunnylands Visitor Center at the end of the drive.

My Burgundy Loropetalum

Yes, the picture you see below is my Loropetalum chinensis standard "sizzling pink" right after I bought it - a neat little lollipop with a few stray hairs.   How it's evolved since September of 2010!   I love, love  it for it's burgundy foliage and graceful form. The Berkeley Botanical Garden

Perched high in  the hills above the UC Berkeley campus in Strawberry Canyon is the UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley.  Once you're up there it seems as though you are far removed from all but in fact,  the Memorial Stadium (go Bears!) is just a mere roll down the hill.  My friend Teri and I visited here on a glorious, sunny Friday last August and barely saw anyone the whole time we were touring this horticultural gem.  ...
