This recipe comes from … a true Italian. This is the dough and the sauce – you can add whatever veggies, meats or cheeses you wish. I love shopping at our local Santa Barbara Farmers Market and chose to add tons of fresh basil (that’s it in the picture next to the yummy pizza), mushrooms, olives, tomatoes, onions, red, yellow, and green peppers. Just throw on however much topping you like! Yields two large pizzas.
1 packet of dry active yeast
1 tbsp. sugar
1 cup lukewarm water
2 tbsp. olive oil
Sift together in separate bowl:
4 cups flour
2 tsp. salt
Sift flour in large bowl and make a well, then add yeast mixture into the center well. Mix slowly until all ingredients are combined. More flour may be needed to make a soft, firm dough. Knead on floured board and then place in a oiled bowl, cover and let rise in warm place untill doubled (several hours). Knead and roll out. Grease two pizza pans with olive oil. Bake at 450 degrees for 20 minutes.
3 tbsp. olive oil
1 clove garlic
4 large tomatoes
salt and pepper
Combine above ingredients and simmer for a 1/2 hour, then spread on the dough. Add toppings, bake for 20 minutes, pour your favorite glass of red wine and enjoy!
